Our third annual Homeschool Rugby Day was colder than the second, but warmer than the first! Below please enjoy the highlight video of the guys' and ladies' matches, as well as a rueful poem by one player, written the next day.

Video filmed by Mercer, Rachelle, Lily, and Brandon; cut together by Phoebe.

There is a set of muscles

I discover once a year

And if I did not play rugby

I would not know that they were here.

The muscles in my neck are screaming,

My shoulders, thighs, and calves

Are whimpering and moaning,

And don't forget my back!

But even if my muscles

Don't appreciate this game,

I'll be coming back next year,

And will play it all the same.

Can you imagine it?

'Rollicking good time' would be one way to describe this unusual evening.

English Country Dancing was exclusively popular in the Regency Era (~1775-1825). Jane Austen's books, and the movies of them, depict wonderful conversations had while enjoying these dances, one of the only social activities at the time.

Each dance consists of a line of partners facing each other, the gentlemen on one side and the ladies on the other, doing a series of simple "figures" which they perform in a square of two couples. After each stanza of the music each couple moves to a new foursome and repeats the figures.

They are wonderful for exercising the body, stretching the memory, practicing elegance, and spending a delightful evening with friends and family!

Unfortunately I don't have terribly many pictures, but I can say with confidence that more fun was had than just shown here! And that almost everyone got a handsome sunburn. We had about 300 people on Saturday, with some impressive race times, fierce competition, and great conversation. Sunday morning was a wonderful time of praising God together and sharing of His faithfulness in our lives. Thanks to all who came out and made it a weekend full of memories!

My personal favourite portion of the weekend.
